How do I access private medical treatment?

Private medical treatment doesn’t have to be complicated. Did you know that you can even pay for your treatment on a one-off basis? This means you won’t be tied in to further private treatment, and can go back to the NHS at any time. There are three simple payment options:

  • Pay for treatment directly with fixed price packages
  • Pay for treatment with a loan (including interest free finance)
  • Use your health insurance if your treatment is covered

Charges for private health treatment

Private healthcare providers are responsible for setting their own charges. You can research treatment prices online and contact providers to discuss options and get a quote. Hospitals will provide a breakdown of treatment and other costs when you book a procedure. This includes any charges for unforeseen events and complications. See treatment guide prices

When you go into hospital for a private operation, you will usually be charged for:

  • your surgeon
  • an anaesthetist
  • the hospital

The hospital and your consultant are likely to ask you for payment separately. This may be because your consultant isn’t employed by the private healthcare provider, so will usually bill you independently for fees.

Many private healthcare providers offer an all-inclusive or fixed procedure price after the initial consultation. An all-inclusive care package price will include all aspects of your care while in hospital and includes one follow-up consultation.
