Whether you need wisdom teeth removed, dental implants fitted, or surgery for a jaw or facial condition, our experienced consultants offer fast access to private dental and maxillofacial care. You’ll receive specialist treatment in a comfortable setting, with clear advice and a treatment plan that’s right for you.
When you've got dental pain, it's hard to think about anything else. Our consultants can take out troublesome wisdom teeth or treat you for neuralgia (nerve pain) almost straight away.
Or if you feel self-conscious about the way you look or find it hard to eat normally because of missing or damaged teeth, we can fix dental implants that look, feel and function in a similar way to your natural teeth.
Oral and maxillofacial surgery focuses on treatments and procedures involving your teeth and gums - such as complex tooth and root extractions, implants, and nerve pain management.
It also covers more complex conditions affecting the mouth, jaw, face and neck - including jaw cysts, facial trauma, misalignment, and oral tumours.
At Spire Healthcare we ensure you get the right care from a consultant with the expertise your condition requires.

What’s the difference between a dental surgeon and a maxillofacial (oral) surgeon?
A dental surgeon focuses on teeth, gums and oral tissues. A maxillofacial (oral and jaw) surgeon is medically and dentally qualified, specialising in the bones and soft tissues of the face, jaw and neck.
Do I need a referral to see a dental or maxillofacial surgeon at Spire?
In most cases, you can self-refer. However, if your condition is complex or you’re claiming on private insurance, a referral from your GP or dentist may be required.
What tests might I need before dental or jaw surgery?
You may need a dental X-ray, panoramic scan or CT scan to assess your teeth, jawbone or facial structures.
How long does recovery take after dental or jaw surgery?
Recovery depends on the procedure. Simple extractions may heal in days, while more complex jaw surgery may take several weeks. Your consultant will provide a detailed recovery plan.
Is dental or maxillofacial surgery covered by insurance?
Most medical insurers cover clinically necessary oral and maxillofacial surgery, but not routine dental work or cosmetic procedures. It's always best to check cover with your individual insurer.
