Spire Healthcare backs the UK's first workplace mental health first aid standards

16 October 2026

Spire Healthcare has adopted the UK's first workplace mental health first aid standards, a clear framework for what good support looks like at work.

Spire has over 200 active Mental Health First Aiders (MHFAs) to support colleagues across our hospitals, clinics and offices. They provide a confidential listening ear, initial support and signposting to appropriate help for staff.

Mantraraj Budhev, Group General Counsel, Chief People Officer and Company Secretary, said:

“The care our colleagues give to patients is outstanding and supporting their mental health and wellbeing is incredibly important to us.

“We have a brilliant Mental Health First Aiders network, and these standards will help to guide us as we continue to build a positive and supportive workplace.”

Developed by MHFA England® and the Association of Mental Health First Aiders®, the standards cover training, support pathways, and how organisations respond when someone needs help. They enable organisations to identify strengths, gaps and priorities for improvement in the provision of mental health support.

Louise Wilder, Capacity & Utilisation Manager and Mental Health First Aider at Spire Dunedin Hospital, said:

“As a Mental Health First Aider, I’m delighted to see us work towards these standards at Spire and excited about the positive impact they will have on the wellbeing and support of our colleagues.”
