CQC rates Spire Regency Hospital as 'Good'

11 February 2022

Spire Regency Hospital in Macclesfield has maintained its ‘Good’ rating, following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

Inspectors carried out an unannounced examination into services offered at the hospital in November 2021. In its report published today, the CQC rated it ‘Good’ overall. They also rated it ‘Good’ in each of the individual categories; safe, effective, caring, responsive to people’s needs and well-led.

In today’s report, inspectors made special mention of the care provided by hospital colleagues. They described staff as treating patients “with compassion and kindness,” respecting “their privacy and dignity,” and providing emotional support for patients, their families and their carers.

The CQC noted that the hospital controlled infection risk well, so crucial during the pandemic. They commented that the hospital planned care to meet the needs of local people, for example providing food for people with specific dietary needs, such as diabetic patients, and those who followed kosher and halal diets.

Inspectors also noted that staff took care to provide advice on healthy lifestyles to those people coming in for treatment.

Spire Regency Hospital's endoscopy suite

The hospital has recently been undergoing a £3m refurbishment programme. A new endoscopy and procedure suite has been created, where patients can receive treatment such as colonoscopies and other surgery, and the suite will see its first patients early in February. This will free up space in the hospital’s two existing operating theatres, allowing more patients to come in for surgery every day, and it will enable the hospital to support their local NHS trusts further, as they have throughout the pandemic.

Further improvements include refurbishments to patient bedrooms, clinic rooms, and treatment rooms and an upgraded reception area which is due to complete in a few weeks’ time.

Sue Dobson, Hospital Director at Spire Regency Hospital, said: “Today’s rating from the CQC is a testament to the hard work, commitment and skill of all of our colleagues. They’ve risen to the challenges posed by the pandemic over the past two years, putting the delivery of exceptional care to patients and their families at the heart of everything they do.

“I’m also really pleased that we are on the point of opening our new treatment suite. Our commitment is to give patients fast access to diagnosis and treatment, in a comfortable environment, and investing in state-of-the-art facilities, enables us to do this.”

95% of Spire Healthcare’s hospitals are rated ‘Good,’ ‘Outstanding’ or the equivalent by health inspectors in England, Wales and Scotland.
