CQC rates Spire Liverpool Hospital as 'Good'

04 October 2022

Spire Liverpool Hospital has maintained its ‘Good’ rating, following an inspection by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

The CQC carried out an inspection of surgical services offered at the hospital in August. In its report published yesterday, they rated it ‘Good’ overall, and in surgical services being safe and well-led.

In the report, CQC inspectors made particular mention that Spire Liverpool Hospital's surgery services had enough colleagues to care for patients and keep them safe. In addition to colleagues demonstrating good patient safeguarding, they focused on the needs of patients receiving care. Spire Liverpool Hospital worked well with patients and the community to plan and manage surgery services, and everyone was committed to improving services continually.

They commented that the hospital engaged well with patients and the community to plan care to meet the needs of local people. They also stated also that patients could access the service when they needed it and did not have to wait too long for treatment.

During the pandemic, the hospital provided care to almost 6,500 NHS inpatients, who needed treatment for cancer and other critical conditions, and many thousands of NHS outpatients. It is now helping local NHS trusts in addressing waiting lists in the area.

Spire Liverpool Hospital has been awarded the National Joint Registry data quality award each year since 2019.

Philip Oehley, Hospital Director at Spire Liverpool Hospital, said: “At Spire Liverpool Hospital, we are delighted with the news of today’s ‘Good’ rating from the CQC. It demonstrates that we are continuing to provide patients with fast access to diagnosis and high-quality compassionate care, in a safe and comfortable environment, in spite of all of the pressures of the recent years.”

98% of Spire Healthcare’s inspected hospitals and clinics are rated ‘Good,’ ‘Outstanding’ or the equivalent by health inspectors in England, Wales and Scotland.
