I am a senior Consultant in the Department of Paediatric Urology at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and an internationally recognised expert in paediatric and adolescent urological reconstruction. With nearly 20 years of consultant experience, I provide specialist care for both common paediatric urological conditions and highly complex reconstructive problems.
I lead the nationally commissioned Bladder Exstrophy Service in Manchester and am widely recognised for my expertise in hypospadias surgery, including primary repair and complex redo procedures after previous unsuccessful operations. I receive referrals from across the UK and internationally for challenging reconstructive cases and regularly support fellow specialists in their management.
I provide comprehensive care across the full spectrum of paediatric urology. My expertise includes congenital and acquired conditions of the kidneys and urinary tract, including pelvi-ureteric junction (PUJ) obstruction, vesico-ureteric junction (VUJ) obstruction, vesico-ureteric reflux(VUR), posterior urethral valves, hydronephrosis and urinary tract infections. I have extensive experience in managing bladder dysfunction, daytime urinary incontinence, nocturnal enuresis and giggle incontinence, offering individualised, child-centred treatment plans.
I also have a particular interest in adolescent urology, including the management of varicocele, post-pubertal hydrocele and transitional urological care. In addition, I treat a wide range of common conditions including phimosis, foreskin disorders, undescended testes, inguinal hernia, hydrocele, umbilical and epigastric hernia, with many procedures performed as day-case surgery.
I am known for combining advanced surgical expertise with a calm, reassuring and family-focused approach, ensuring that children, young people and their families feel fully informed and supported throughout their care.
I am an Honorary Professor at the Institute of Human Development, School of Biological Sciences, University of Manchester.
I have published more than 75 peer-reviewed scientific papers and presented over 80 abstracts at national and international meetings in the UK, Europe and the United States.
