I have been a consultant orthopaedic surgeon specialising in knee surgery since 1990. I provide a specialist service for sports knee injuries including cartilage injury, simple and complex knee ligament injuries, early and advanced arthritis of the knee, knee deformity and failed knee surgery.
I specialise in knee surgery, performing keyhole operations (arthroscopy), anterior cruciate and complex ligament reconstructions, cartilage repair and regeneration, knee realignment (osteotomy), revision knee ligament surgery, partial and total knee replacements and revision knee replacements. My interests are in all aspects of knee surgery, the management of the younger patient with degenerative knee disease, outcomes of surgical interventions and the organisation of musculoskeletal services. In addition, I have a wide commitment to surgical education across all specialties
In the last 10 years I have performed approximately 1,400 knee replacements, 200 partial knee replacements, 120 revision knee replacements, 400 anterior cruciate reconstructions, 2,500 other arthroscopic (keyhole) knee operations and 150 osteotomies (knee realignment).
I have previously been training programme director, head of the school of surgery for the Northwest and chairman of the confederation of post-graduate schools of surgery for the uk. I continue in the lead role for developing the orthopaedic curriculum and the quality assurance of assessments of trainees in surgical specialties.
I am a member of Orthteam which is a group of specialist orthopaedic surgeons dedicated to the highest quality of patient management and continuing education of all those involved in the care of patients with musculoskeletal injuries and disease.
