I am a Consultant Ophthalmologist and specialist Vitreoretinal Surgeon with more than 16 years of experience in ophthalmology. I specialise in the diagnosis and treatment of complex retinal and macular conditions, vitreoretinal disease and cataracts, providing patients with access to highly specialised surgical care.
My areas of expertise include vitreoretinal surgery, macular disease, epiretinal membrane (macular pucker), retinal detachment, vitreomacular traction and cataract surgery. I also have significant experience treating patients who require combined cataract and retinal procedures, allowing for an integrated approach to care.
My vitreoretinal practice encompasses the management of a wide range of disorders affecting the retina, macula and vitreous, including macular holes, complex retinal detachments, proliferative vitreoretinopathy, tractional retinal disease, diabetic retinal complications, vitreous haemorrhage and selected complex vitreous disorders.
A particular area of expertise is the treatment of patients with co-existing cataract and vitreoretinal disease. Where clinically appropriate, cataract and retinal surgery can be carefully coordinated or performed as a combined procedure. These cases require detailed surgical planning and a thorough understanding of how treatment of one part of the eye may influence another.
I also provide contemporary cataract surgery, including complex cataract procedures and advanced intraocular lens implantation. Every treatment plan is tailored to the individual patient, taking into account their eye health, visual requirements and long-term goals.
My approach is centred on clinical excellence, surgical precision and compassionate care, with the aim of achieving the best possible visual outcomes. I believe patients should have a clear understanding of their diagnosis, treatment options and expected outcomes before proceeding with treatment. I take pride in providing personalised, consultant-led care and ensuring patients feel informed and supported throughout their journey, from initial assessment through to surgery and follow-up care.
Alongside my clinical practice, I have a strong interest in innovation and emerging technologies in ophthalmology. I am particularly interested in how advances in diagnostics, digital healthcare and new technologies can enhance patient care and clinical decision-making.
I have performed more than 5,000 ophthalmic surgical procedures and currently undertake around 1,000 cataract operations each year. My practice is supported by clinical leadership experience, peer-reviewed research and a commitment to delivering evidence-based, patient-centred care.
