My main area of specialty is the management of reflux and hiatus hernia repair, gallstones and hernias of the abdominal wall. I perform the majority of my operations laparoscopically (keyhole surgery).
Over the 12 years of my consultant post I have gained extensive experience of both elective and general surgery. I have performed over a 1,000 laparoscopic cholecystecomies both in the elective and emergency setting. In addition I have performed over 200 hiatus hernia repairs. I perform over 200 gastroscopies a year in my NHS practice and I am a recognised as an endoscopy trainer. I also perform both laparoscopic and open abdominal hernia repair.
I graduated from University of Manchester with my primary medical degree in 1999. I completed my basic surgical training in the West of Scotland with a period of research. I then moved to the North West of England for my higher surgical training, specialising in upper gastrointestinal surgery. I have been a consultant general and upper gastrointestinal surgeon in Stockport since 2012.
I am the associate medical director for the division of surgery in my NHS trust. In addition to my clinical work I am responsible for the clinical governance and developing services across the surgical division.
I am an examiner for the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh. I regularly examine surgical trainees who are starting off in their surgical careers.
