I have a strong clinical background and training in vitreoretinal surgery and medical retina, as well as general ophthalmology/cataract. My cumulative experience as a Consultant Ophthalmologist, in addition to completing the UK national training programme in Ophthalmology at the top specialist eye centre Moorfields in London, has provided me with the experience necessary to manage a wide range of ophthalmic disorders.

I have special interests in cataracts, macular holes and epiretinal membranes, complex retinal detachment, diabetic eye disease and secondary lens replacement.

I have a strong reputation as an empathic and effective communicator, both with patients and colleagues. I consistently aspire to use these attributes to form a compassionate, responsive and patient-centred service, with robust patient feedback mechanisms to facilitate service evolution and improvement.

I specialise in vitreoretinal surgery, medical retina, cataract and lens replacement surgery as well as general ophthalmology.

My areas of expertise include: cataract surgery; secondary lens implants; posterior capsular thickening; trauma; urgent eye problems; age-related macular degeneration (AMD); diabetic retinopathy; retinal vein and artery occlusion; intravitreal injections; flashes and floaters; posterior vitreous detachment; retinal breaks; macular holes; epiretinal membrane; retinal detachment; vitreous haemorrhage; diabetic retinopathy; YAG laser capsulotomy; trauma management.

To date I have performed over 1,000 phacoemulsification and intra-ocular lens procedures, over 1,000 vitrectomy and tamponade procedures for retinal detachment, over 1,000 other retinal operations, including macular hole and epiretinal membrane surgery, scleral buckling procedures and diabetic vitrectomies.

I have acquired key specialist surgical skills through extensive operative experience, including performing over 250 rhinoplasties using both external and closed (scarless) approaches, covering functional and cosmetic cases, as well as primary and revision procedures, often involving grafting and reconstruction with donor rib cartilage (Tutoplast).

I have also carried out more than 750 sinus procedures, managing advanced polyps and undertaking extended operations, including frontal sinus surgery and balloon dilations. In addition, I have completed over 400 nasal airway septal straightening procedures, encompassing both primary and revision cases. My experience further includes more than 750 tonsil and adenoid procedures in both adult and paediatric patients, utilising modern techniques such as coblation, and performing tonsillotomy and tonsillectomy for conditions including recurrent tonsillitis and obstructive sleep apnoea.

I am the winner of the Certificate of Merit at the BEAVRS Annual Meeting 2017 and a prize winner in the Aylward QIPP awards, Moorfields Eye Hospital in 2017. I was the winner of the National Alcon Glaucoma Case Study Award in 2012 and a prize winner in the Ophthalmology regional audit & research meeting in 2009.

I won the Department of Pharmacology (Cambridge) Research Project Prize in 2004, awarded for best undergraduate project of the year.

I was awarded the Trinity College Cambridge Senior Scholarship (2004-2005), Junior Scholarship (2002-2003) and Physiology Prize (2002).

I enjoy spending my spare time hiking, skiing and in other outdoor pursuits with my husband and my two children. I have a life-long history of participation in various martial arts, currently attending my local Brazilian Ju-Jitsu club.
