Mr Zishan Naeem

Senior Orthoptist

BMedSci (Hons)

I am a senior Orthoptist with over 14 years’ experience and have extensive experience in visual development and amblyopia (lazy eye), visual impairment, squints (misalignment of the eyes) and complex eye movement disorders.

I specialise in investigating, diagnosing and managing eye movement disorders in children and adults and lend my expertise to managing the disruption of visual development in children.

To date I have successfully treated amblyopia (lazy eye) in 10s of 1,000s of children as old as 16 years of age, and have worked closely with the consultant ophthalmologist to provide the vital orthoptic findings which are needed to tailor surgical procedures for the individual. This has been within the NHS (over 14 years) and private practice (over 7 years).

I am a liaison for visually impaired children and can provide detailed reports highlighting the child's visual needs. I continually strive to utilise my passion for clinical Orthoptics in ensuring evidence-based practice and the provision of high standards of care, which is well-aligned with the ethos of Spire.

I am currently the Deputy Head Orthoptist and Lead Orthoptist for the London Retinoblastoma service at The Royal London Hospital (Barts NHS Health Trust). I have gained invaluable expertise from working in one of London’s major trauma centers, as well as having worked at Moorfields Eye Hospital both in London and in Dubai. As a result, I am proficient in autonomously assessing an array of complex eye conditions in both children and adults.
