Mr Winston Kim
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
MBChB, MSc, FRCS (Tr and Orth)
I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hip and knee surgery. I have an interest focused on arthritic and pre-arthritic conditions of the hip and knee.
After graduating from the University of Aberdeen in 1996, I completed my orthopaedic training in the North West rotation, obtaining the FRCS (Orth). My year-long sub-specialist training was in Vancouver at Clive Duncan's Unit at UBC, Canada. I was the recipient of the British Orthopaedic Foundation Travelling Fellowship award, visiting the world-renowned Mayo Clinic, Minnesota and the Hospital of Surgery (HSS) in New York, USA.
I pioneered robotic-assisted joint replacements in the North of England and was the first to perform the triad of total hip, partial knee and total knee replacements in the North of England, with one of the largest series of combined robotic assisted joint replacements to date in the North West (>150 robot assisted hip and knee replacements and >1800 conventional hip and knee replacements – data provided March 2020).
Treatment offered includes a multidisciplinary assessment, non-operative treatment with tailored physiotherapy, targeted biological injections, minimally invasive surgery, including stem cell-like treatment and keyhole surgery of the hip and knee. Examples of conditions treated include meniscal (soft cartilage tears), cartilage defects and ACL injuries of the knee, labral tears of the hip and hip impingement, early hip and knee arthritis.
My practice has a heavy emphasis on the most appropriate decision making, tailored to the individual patient, outcome analysis and feedback from patients and from a multidisciplinary team. The goal is to ensure the best possible care and outcome for each patient, every time. I have invested heavily in structure and staff to facilitate these aspirations.
