Professional profile

I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hip and knee surgery. I have specialist interests focused on arthritic conditions of the hip and knee, the after effects of sports injuries such as treatment of meniscal, cartilage defects and ACL injuries of the knee/hip, and labral tears of the hip. For advanced arthritis, I perform ‘optimally invasive’ hip replacement and robotic assisted knee replacements, incorporating enhanced recovery techniques.

I graduated from the University of Aberdeen in 1996 and completed my orthopaedic training in the North-West rotation, obtaining the FRCS (Orth). My sub-specialist training was in Vancouver at Clive Duncan's unit at UBC, Vancouver, Canada. I was the recipient of the British Orthopaedic Foundation Travelling Fellowship award visiting the world-renowned Mayo Clinic, Minnesota and the Hospital of Surgery (HSS) in New York, USA.

I pioneered NAVIO robotic-assisted joint replacements in the North West, and was the first to perform the NAVIO robotic assisted knee replacement in the North of England, with the largest series of NAVIO robotic assisted knee replacements to date in the North West.

My practice has a heavy emphasis on clear decision making tailored to the individual patient, outcome analysis and feedback from patients and from a multi-disciplinary team. The goal is to ensure the best possible care and outcome for each patient, every time and first time.
