Mr William Gallagher

Urology Consultant

MBBS FRCS (Urol) PGCE BA GDL

Specialises in

  • Core urological procedures
  • Laparoscopic renal surgery
  • Renal stone surgery
  • Prostate biopsy (LATP)

I was appointed to Worcester NHS Trust in 2022 and have build up an extensive NHS practice.  I have a specialist interest in laparoscopic and robotic renal surgery whilst also leading the paediatric urology service at the Trust. I have extensive training in core urology procedures such as circumcision, hydrocele repair, cystoscopic surgery (transurethral resection of the prostate and bladder) and stone surgery (ureteroscopy and lasertripsy). I helped introduce the new technique of local anaesthetic transperineal prostate biopsy to the Trust which has a lower risk of infection and offers better diagnostics for prostate cancer.

I have a broad experience in the management of general urological conditions such Urinary tract infections, kidney stones, bothersome lower urinary tract symptoms, blood in the urine/ semen, testicular lumps/ pain and erectile dysfunction.

I undertook my medical school training at Peninsula School of Medicine and Dentistry in Exeter and Plymouth having previously studied at Trinity Dublin. I started my surgical training in London and completed my specialty Urology training back in the South West, finishing with a Robotic Renal surgery placement at the tertiary centre Southmead in Bristol. I attained my Fellowship of Royal College of Surgeons Exams in Urology 2021. I also have PGCE in healthcare leadership and management from Exeter University.

I am keen in medical innovation having enrolled in the NHS clinical entrepreneur programme. I am hoping to introduce Aqua-Ablation to the region for benign outlet obstruction surgery.

I look forward to getting to know you and unpacking your individual urological concerns. I pride myself in communicating in language that you will be able to understand and engage with. We can then develop a management strategy together for your condition, whether that be medical, surgical, ongoing monitoring or simply reassurance.
