I am a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon, specialising in medical retinal diseases (eg macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, retinal vein occlusion) and cataract surgery. Having performed thousands of cataract operations, retinal injections and laser procedures to the highest standard, I have ample experience in treating these eye conditions, all with a caring and informed manner. With the help of my clinical experience and extensive research, I am able to offer my patients the latest treatments, along with an expert opinion on the most appropriate treatment for them.
My specialist interest is in medical retinal conditions such as macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy and maculopathy, retinal vein occlusion, myopic degeneration, vitreous traction disorders and central serous retinopathy. I am also highly trained in cataract surgery and have an abundance of experience in performing surgery in patients with additional retinal problems, with excellent results that are well within the standards set by the Royal College of Ophthalmologists. My specialist procedures include: Intravitreal Injections for retinal conditions (Lucentis, Eylea, Avastin, Jetrea, Ozurdex and Iluvien); Retinal laser therapy; Cataract surgery using monfocal, toric and multifocal lenses.
I am actively involved with the research and development of retinal therapies. I am the site principal investigator for a national study investigating the optimum treatment for retinal vein occlusion. I have a particular interest in AntiVEGF and steroid therapy, used to treat retinal conditions where there is leakage or bleeding from damaged retinal blood vessels. I currently offers these treatment to my patients with numerous studies demonstrating effective results.
I am the lead author of “Training in Ophthalmology”. This textbook, published by Oxford University Press provides a comprehensive overview and is widely used by trainee and junior ophthalmologists in the UK and abroad. I have also had my work published in the New England Journal of Medicine and in the prestigious journal of Ophthalmology.
