Mr Trevor Lawrence
Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon
BSc (Hons), MBChB, FRCS (Orth)
Specialises in
Virtual consultations:
My expertise includes complex hip surgery in young patients with dysplasia (malformed hip joints) and patients are often referred to me when they develop problems with existing hip replacements, including infection, dislocation and pain. I use the latest techniques to rebuild damaged bone when hip replacements become loose. For younger patients not ready for a hip replacement, keyhole surgery can be beneficial, since painful spurs and loose bodies can be removed and areas of damaged cartilage treated.
Specialising in the treatment of painful hip and knee joints in patients of all ages, I consult at Spire Parkway Hospital on Monday evenings, Tuesday evenings, Wednesday afternoons and Friday afternoons. My passion is primary and revision hip replacement and patients now come from all over the country for my expertise.
I have been a consultant at the Heart of England Foundation Trust and Solihull’s Spire Parkway Hospital since 1999 and am responsible for the training of orthopaedic surgeons. I am leading a team of consultants who are committed to making Solihull a centre of excellence for orthopaedic surgery.
The Exeter Hip Replacement that I use has excellent long term results, with more than 90% of hip joints functioning up to and beyond 39 years, and currently has the best patient outcomes according to the National Joint Registry for England and Wales.
After graduating from Edinburgh University Medical School in 1986, I trained at Wrightington Hospital in Wigan – where Sir John Charnley pioneered the first hip replacement. I also trained at the Princess Elizabeth Hospital in Exeter, where major advances in hip design and surgical technique were achieved. I also spent a year at the University of Virginia, Charlottesville, USA, as a surgical and research fellow.
My recent achievements include being awarded excellence points for quality of care given to patients undergoing hip replacement, knee replacement and revision hip replacement at Solihull Hospital on the NHS. I am a convener for the Exeter hip course held for the first time at Solihull Hospital with speakers and orthopaedic surgeons attending from all over Britain. I was the winner of the Naughton Dunn Award in 2011 and I regularly present research and I am a guest speaker at many national and international conferences on orthopaedic surgery.
