I am a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon based in Worcester, appointed to Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust in 2008. I established and lead the complex glaucoma surgical service for the county of Worcestershire, providing specialist care for patients with early, advanced, and complex glaucoma.
My clinical expertise includes modern glaucoma surgery and laser treatments, with particular interest in laser therapy for glaucoma, trabeculectomy with mitomycin‑C, and glaucoma drainage implant surgery. I also have a strong focus on advanced glaucoma investigations, including optic disc imaging, to support accurate diagnosis and long‑term disease monitoring.
After qualifying as a medical doctor, I completed a three‑year ophthalmology residency and undertook a prospective randomised study on glaucoma surgery, for which I was awarded an MD in Ophthalmology in 1994. My specialist ophthalmology training was carried out at leading UK centres, including Birmingham Eye Hospital, Oxford Eye Hospital, and Moorfields Eye Hospital, London, where I served as Specialist Registrar and Senior Glaucoma Fellow.
My clinical interests include: glaucoma diagnosis and investigation, laser treatment for glaucoma, modern trabeculectomy with adjunctive therapies, glaucoma drainage implant surgery, cataract surgery in complex glaucoma and advanced glaucoma surgical techniques.
My research interests focus on quality of life in glaucoma, outcomes of cataract surgery in glaucoma patients, and the development of modern surgical approaches to glaucoma management. I published the world’s first paper on the use of 5‑fluorouracil (5‑FU) in phacoemulsification to protect functioning glaucoma surgery and have authored more than 30 peer‑reviewed scientific publications.
I am an active faculty member for glaucoma training workshops and regularly deliver invited lectures in the UK and internationally, contributing to the education of ophthalmologists at all stages of training.
My approach to care is evidence‑based, meticulous, and patient‑centred, ensuring that each patient in Worcester receives a personalised treatment plan aimed at preserving vision and quality of life.
If you are looking for an experienced glaucoma specialist and consultant ophthalmic surgeon in Worcester, I offer expert assessment and advanced surgical and laser treatment tailored to individual needs.
