MChS DpodM

Specialises in

  • General podiatry

I qualified in 1980 as a State Registered Podiatrist at The London Foot Hospital which is now amalgamated with the University College Hospital, London.

I have worked both in Primary and Secondary Care over the years in London, Trafford and Liverpool gaining valuable experience in managing podiatry patients across both care services and have trained in diabetes, rheumatology, dermatology orthopeadics, wound care and specialised in treating foot and ankle patients with complex pathologies.

I helped to establish a shared care service with primary and secondary providers by setting up a care pathway for diabetics with foot ulcers in Liverpool.

I am the clinical lead working in an extended role as Advanced Practitioner in Musculo-skeletal foot and ankle clinics in The Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen Hospitals Trust. This involves a high level of clinical autonomy.

I set up a direct GP referral service to Orthotics Service across Liverpool for the Trust, plus I'm currently setting up an orthotic workshop to manufacture insoles on site for the Trust, and also provide a nail surgery service for high risk patients in Orthopaedics.

I continue to advance my skills as part of my professional development training in steroid injection therapy. As part of the Trust wound care management group I also regularly audit and evaluate wound dressing products for the Trust wound formulary. Presently I am training towards my Masters at Liverpool University and also training in management.

I am a recognised figure in Liverpool in the field of podiatry, having given numerous talks over the years to medics, AHPs, nurses, GPs and patient groups. As part of primary and secondary podiatry services group, written patients information leaflets on the Diabetic foot as well as patient information leaflets on footwear for the orthotic department.

My Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) number is CH07701.

Choosing a foot care specialist

Every doctor, nurse, physiotherapist or other health professional has specific skills and qualifications. They can only provide care that fits within those skills and rules set by their profession. For foot care specialists this means:

  • Podiatrists - They diagnose and treat problems with your feet and lower limbs (they are not medical doctors). They can provide advice, prescribe certain medications and carry out non-surgical treatments
  • Podiatric Consultants - These are highly experienced podiatrists (they are not medical doctors). They can manage complex foot and ankle conditions, using a range of non-surgical treatments
  • Consultant Podiatric Surgeons - They are podiatrists who have completed additional training (they are not medical doctors). They can manage complex foot and ankle conditions using a range of non-surgical treatments and perform some surgical procedures
