I am a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon working within one of the busiest colorectal surgery units in the country. My practice covers both cancer and non-cancer conditions affecting the bowel and abdomen, and I perform the majority of procedures using minimally invasive techniques such as laparoscopic (keyhole) and robotic surgery wherever appropriate.
I specialise in abdominal surgery and offer treatment for abdominal and groin hernias using either open or laparoscopic approaches, depending on the type of hernia and what is most suitable for you. I also have extensive experience in coloproctology, which involves treating conditions affecting the lower bowel and anal area, including haemorrhoids (piles), anal fistulas, fissures, pilonidal disease and skin tags.
Alongside surgery, I provide assessment and advice for a wide range of bowel symptoms and conditions, including abdominal pain, constipation, loose bowels, bowel incontinence and difficulties with bowel emptying. I also offer colonoscopy and flexible sigmoidoscopy procedures to help diagnose and investigate bowel conditions.
For patients requiring more complex treatment, I perform major abdominal surgery for bowel cancer and benign bowel conditions such as diverticular disease and inflammatory bowel disease, assessing each case individually to ensure the most appropriate treatment plan.
To date, I have performed more than 500 major bowel resections for both cancer and benign conditions, over 250 hernia repairs and more than 300 lower gastrointestinal endoscopies.
Before becoming a consultant surgeon, I served as a commissioned medical officer in the Royal Navy from 2007 to 2015. During this time, I completed sea tours with NATO, supporting counter-narcotics and counter-piracy operations in the North Indian Ocean. I also undertook an operational tour at Camp Bastion in Afghanistan as a surgical registrar.
I am currently the Associate Colorectal Cancer Lead at University Hospitals of North Midlands NHS Trust and also serve as a consultant advisor to the Safer Medicines Group within the Trust.
