Biopsy of lesion of mouth, Closed reduction of fracture of zygomatic complex of bones, Excision of lesion of lip, Excision of lesion of tongue, Open reduction and fixation of fractured jaw, Open reduction of fracture of zygomatic complex of bones, Osteotomy of mandible, Osteotomy of maxilla and Surgical removal of buried roots.
I treat a broad range of oral and maxillofacial and oral surgery conditions of the mouth, face, jaws and neck. This includes dentoalveolar surgery (roots, wisdom teeth and cysts), soft tissue lesions of the mouth and lips, bone grafting and dental implants, salivary gland surgery and surgical dermatology. I specialise in surgery for cosmetic and functional facial deformity and disproportion and the treatment of facial trauma.
After qualifying in dentistry, I undertook junior posts in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Edinburgh, Liverpool and Aberdeen. I studied medicine in Aberdeen and basic surgical training in Aberdeen and Edinburgh. I completed higher surgical training in Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in Newcastle, Sunderland and Middlesbrough before being appointed a consultant to Central Manchester and Wigan in 2002.
In my NHS practice, I complete up to 1,000 new consultations per year. I undertake jaw deformity surgery for approximately 80 jaws and am responsible for the treatment of over 300 facial injuries per year.
I am actively involved in selection to dental core, medical school and higher surgical training. I was the Training Programme Director North West Deanery and Regional Advisor RCSEd from 2010 to 2015. From 2006 to 2009 I was a Speciality Advisor RCS.
I examine in MBChB, MFDS, MRCS & FRCS(OMFS). I regularly instruct in advanced trauma and critical care.
My clinical interests are the treatment of cosmetic and functional facial deformity and disproportion and facial injuries.
