I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in soft tissue / reconstructive knee surgery and sport knee injuries, however I do not perform joint replacement surgery. I frequently manage complex cases referred from across the North of England.
Initially from Cumbria, I qualified from St Bartholomew's Medical School, London in 2001. I completed my basic surgical training in the North West before being selected for specialist orthopaedic training on the Oswestry Orthopaedic Rotation in 2006. Whilst at Oswestry, I trained under eminent sport and knee surgeon Mr Dai Rees, which helped shape my career in sports knee surgery. My NHS Practice is at the Sports Knee Clinic, Wrightington Hospital.
In 2011 I was awarded the BOSTAA (British Orthopaedic Sport Trauma and Arthroscopy Association) travelling fellowship in sports surgery. This enabled me to visit centres of excellence throughout the USA, and learn from leading Knee Surgeons.
I am committed to teaching and training and I am currently the Programme Director for the Wrightington Sports Knee Fellowship programme where Orthopaedic Surgeons gain specialist training in sports knee surgery. In addition to being the Knee Surgeon to the top Super League rugby clubs, in 2013 I was appointed as the Knee Surgeon for the Rugby League World Cup.
