Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Richard Parkinson at Spire include:
Revision knee replacement, patella stabilisation.
I was appointed Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon at Wirral NHS Trust in 1994 and I continue in active clinical practice. I did overseas fellowships in Melbourne, Australia and Seattle, USA. My main specialist interest is in surgery of the knee. I am one of the highest volume knee replacement surgeons in the UK, both primary and revision. In 2010 I was voted by my peers as one of the top ten UK knee arthroplasty surgeons in a Daily Mail poll. I have a super specialist interest in revision knee replacement including the treatment of infection. Over the last 10 years I have pioneered a single stage revision technique for the infected knee replacement called a "2 in 1". I also perform large numbers of knee arthroscopies and ligament reconstructions. I perform over one hundred primary hip replacements per annum. I have served on the executive of BASK (British Association for Surgery of the Knee) since 2006 and am the current president. I review papers for the BJJ and have served on the Professional Practice Committee of the British Orthopaedic Association. I undertake medico-legal work, both personal injury and medical negligence.
All forms of knee surgery including knee arthroscopy, ligament reconstruction and primary and revision knee replacement. Also primary hip replacement.
My numbers of hip and knee replacement can be reviewed at http://www.nhs.uk/.
Current president of the British Association for Surgery of the Knee, (BASK).
I was clinical director of the Orthopaedic Directorate of Wirral NHS Trust between 2004-2009.
