Mr Richard Baker

I am a specialist joint replacement consultant surgeon and have worked at Spire Bristol Hospital and The Avon Orthopaedic Centre, Southmead Hospital since 2012. I have dedicated my entire career to orthopaedic surgery and research since graduating from Manchester University in 1999.

I subsequently trained in joint replacement surgery in Bristol and completed fellowship training in the prestigious Vancouver joint replacement unit. I perform over 250 joint replacements a year. I specialise in both primary hip and knee replacements, including partial medial knee replacements and revision surgery of both hip and knee replacements. Minimally invasive hip surgery is now offered.

During my career, I have published many articles on orthopaedic disease and speak at international medical conferences. I am currently the advisory editor of Hip International having been its Editor-in-Chief for six years previously.

I pride myself on my warm bedside manner and ability to offer patient-centred joint replacement surgery and follow-up hospital care in partnership with consultant anaesthetist, Dr Steve Tolchard. Together, we have performed in excess of 1,700 joint replacements since 2012.
