I am a Foot and Ankle Consultant Surgeon at Northumbria Healthcare Foundation Trust, where I have been practising since February 2014. During my higher surgical training in trauma and orthopaedics, I developed a strong interest in foot and ankle surgery. I find this area particularly rewarding, as the foot and ankle play a vital role in movement and carry nearly three times our body weight, requiring precise coordination across more than 26 joints.

To further develop my expertise, I completed two specialist fellowships in foot and ankle surgery. These included training at the Avon Orthopaedic Centre in Bristol under Mr Ian Winson, and at the Northern General Hospital in Sheffield under Mr Chris Blundell. I have also undertaken international fellowships, including the BOFAS Travelling Fellowship at the Sigvard Hansen Foot and Ankle Unit in Seattle, USA, and an AO Trauma Fellowship in Hannover, Germany.

I specialise in general orthopaedics with a particular focus on foot and ankle conditions. My areas of interest include sports injuries, ankle arthritis, and procedures such as ankle replacement (arthroplasty) and arthroscopic ankle fusion. I also carry out minimally invasive foot surgery, including bunion (hallux valgus) correction and treatment for toe deformities.

I have significant experience in managing ankle instability, cartilage damage, heel pain, and soft tissue injuries. My work also includes correcting foot deformities such as flatfoot and high-arched (cavus) feet, as well as treating peripheral nerve conditions affecting the foot and ankle.

I have performed over 100 ankle replacements, along with a similar number of arthroscopic ankle fusions. My approach focuses on choosing the most appropriate treatment for each patient, often using minimally invasive techniques where possible.

Alongside my clinical work, I am passionate about teaching and supporting the next generation of orthopaedic surgeons. I have been honoured to be recognised as ‘Trainer of the Year’ in 2017 and 2020. I hold several national roles, including Quality Assurance Lead for the National Orthopaedic Specialist Advisory Committee and membership of the National Orthopaedic Selection Design Group.

I also contribute to education and training through my involvement with the British Orthopaedic Foot and Ankle Society (BOFAS), where I serve on the Education Committee. Locally, I am a Surgical Tutor Committee member and Training Lead at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Trust.
