I have worked as a consultant surgeon at Royal Infirmary, Edinburgh since 2008, specialising in upper gastrointestinal and general surgery. Before my consultant appointment I completed higher surgical training in the North East of England from 2002-2007 and a fellowship in Upper GI Surgery at Royal Adelaide Hospital, Australia 2007-2008.
My main clinical interests include oesophageal and gastric cancer, weight loss surgery, benign laparoscopic upper GI surgery, general surgery, and laparoscopic hernia repair. I am a consultant on the busy emergency rota at the Royal Infirmary for general and upper GI surgery.
Research interests: My main ongoing research interests are oesophago-gastric cancer, weight loss surgery, and surgery for gastro-oesophageal reflux. During my training I completed a two-year MD at the Northern Oesophago-gastric Unit, Newcastle, on oesophageal cancer. I have active interests in undergraduate teaching and surgical training.
