I graduated in medicine from University of Mumbai in 1986 and completed my orthopaedic residency at King Edward VII Memorial hospital in 1992. I was ranked first at KEM hospital and second in the University of Mumbai. I completed a diploma in orthopaedics with a distinction and was ranked first in the College of Physician and Surgeons exam. Later I worked for three years as a senior university lecturer.
After moving to the UK in 1995, I joined Nottingham/Mid Trent Higher Surgical Training Programme. Later I went to Cambridge/East Anglia orthopaedic training programme to complete training in orthopaedics where I was awarded a certificate of completion of surgical training.
During my training I was awarded the following fellowships: Knee Fellowship at Nottingham and Derby, and Shoulder Fellowship - Derby, Pulvertaft Hand Fellowship. During my knee fellowship, I was trained for primary and revision knee replacement, ACL/PCL ligament reconstruction, meniscus repair and knee arthroscopies.
I also trained at the Nottingham shoulder and elbow unit and in my last year, worked at Norwich upper limb and trauma unit. My NHS practice includes dealing with sports injuries, knee and shoulder injuries. I also provide a specialist hand service including treatment of thumb arthritis, carpal and cubital tunnel syndrome and Dupuytren's contracture.
I work for the Royal College of Surgeons, University of Birmingham and NHS England. I am involved in teaching and training junior doctors.
