Mr Oscar Garcia-Casas

I am a Consultant Spinal Surgeon, focusing on the management of adult spinal pathology including the assessment, non-operative and operative management of spinal conditions. My practice concentrates on neck and lower back conditions and my surgical practice concentrates on the full range of spinal operations, ranging from injections, cervical and lumbar microdiscectomies, decompressions and fusions.

My clinical interests include Cervical and lumbar disc herniation, degenerative and traumatic spine disorders, cervical and lumbar spine (diseases and disorders of), spinal surgery and spinal injections. My special clinical interests include Spondylolisthesis, infection of the spine, management of lumbar and cervical disc herniation, cervical spondylotic myelopathy, management of degenerative lumbar and cervical spinal stenosis and spinal trauma, vertebral fractures and osteoporotic vertebral fractures.

I graduated in 1995 from the University of Barcelona, Spain. My surgical training was undertaken in Barcelona at the Hospitals del Mar i l’Esperança UAB and I qualified as a Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon in 2004. Throughout my training I have focused my interest in spinal surgery. I tailored my rotation towards spinal pathologies with five years of intense mentoring by Professor Enric Cáceres-Palou, former President of the European Federation of National Associations of Orthopaedics and Traumatology (EFORT).

I completed a spine surgery fellowship at the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire CHU, Bordeaux. For six years, I specialised as a consultant in lumbar and cervical degenerative and trauma surgery when, in 2010, I was appointed as a spinal consultant at the Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau UAB in Barcelona. In 2014, I was appointed as a Consultant Orthopaedic Spinal Surgeon at Ashford and St Peter’s NHS Trust.

I am currently the Medical and Dental Staff Governor for my trust and am a member of the BMA, British Association of Spinal Surgeons and AO Spine.
