Mr Nishil Modi

I am a Consultant Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgeon at West Suffolk Hospital, Bury St Edmunds and practise privately at Spire Norwich Hospital specialising in hip and knee replacement surgery for patients across East Anglia.

My approach focuses on accurate implant positioning and balanced soft tissues to optimise function and improve how a joint feels after replacement. I am certified in MAKO and CORI robotic-assisted surgery and offer these technologies where appropriate.

Knee replacement - I use a functional alignment philosophy to respect each patient’s natural anatomy, improve soft tissue balance, and create a more natural feeling knee. I routinely resurface the patella (knee cap) where appropriate.

Hip replacement - I offer a muscle sparing mini posterior approach where suitable, as well as both uncemented and hybrid hip replacements.

Revision hip surgery - This is a specialist area of interest. Complex revision procedures are typically performed within the NHS as part of a multidisciplinary team, in line with national best practice.

To date I have performed over 1,000 hip and knee replacements.

I graduated from the University of Nottingham in 2011 with BMedSci and Medical degrees before completing Higher Specialist Training in Trauma and Orthopaedic Surgery within the East of England Deanery.

I then undertook high-volume arthroplasty fellowships in New Zealand, Australia, and the UK, gaining extensive experience in primary and complex hip and knee replacement, revision hip surgery, and robotic-assisted joint replacement.

In addition to my clinical commitments, I enjoy teaching and am an instructor on Advanced Trauma Life Support courses in the region.
