I am a consultant urological surgeon with a specialist interest in robotic surgery, urological cancers and advanced diagnostic techniques. Alongside my clinical practice, I serve as National Co-Chair for Robotic Surgical Training at NHS England, with a cross-specialty role supporting the development of robotic surgery training. I am also Associate Medical Director and Cancer Lead at East and North Hertfordshire Teaching NHS Trust, and Professor and Chair of Robotic Surgery at the University of Hertfordshire, where I combine surgery with research, innovation and education.
I am one of the UK's high-volume robotic urological cancer surgeons, with experience of more than 1,800 robotic cancer procedures. This includes robotic surgery for prostate, bladder and kidney cancer. My work focuses on delivering evidence-based care while tailoring treatment plans to the needs of each individual patient.
I assess and treat a wide range of urological conditions, with particular expertise in prostate, bladder, kidney and testicular cancers. My prostate cancer practice includes robotic-assisted radical prostatectomy, nerve-sparing and NeuroSAFE robotic prostatectomy, extended pelvic lymph node dissection and salvage robotic prostatectomy for appropriately selected patients who have previously received radiotherapy. I also investigate raised PSA levels and provide expert assessment and diagnosis of prostate cancer.
For men with an enlarged prostate or lower urinary tract symptoms, I offer both medical and surgical treatment options, including Aquablation therapy for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).
My bladder cancer practice includes cystoscopy, Blue Light Cystoscopy, bladder cancer diagnosis and treatment, robotic radical cystectomy, urinary reconstruction using ileal conduit or orthotopic neobladder techniques, and salvage cystectomy where appropriate.
I also perform robotic and conventional surgery for kidney conditions, including partial and radical nephrectomy for kidney tumours, complex renal surgery and robotic pyeloplasty for pelvi-ureteric junction obstruction. In addition, I treat kidney and ureteric stones, including laser stone surgery, recurrent urinary tract infections, male urinary incontinence, male infertility, and provide vasectomy and vasectomy reversal procedures.
Alongside my surgical practice, I am an internationally accredited robotic surgery proctor and regularly train and mentor surgeons across Europe and Asia. My international work has included robotic surgery programmes in India, Hong Kong, Thailand and Jordan, where I participated in the country's first robotic surgery programme in 2022.
My academic interests include robotic surgery, prostate and bladder cancer, artificial intelligence in surgery, low-pressure pneumoperitoneum, biomarkers, surgical ergonomics and emerging robotic technologies. I have published more than 250 peer-reviewed papers and contributed to clinical trials, multicentre collaborations, book chapters and international presentations. I also hold editorial responsibilities as International Section Editor for Urology in Gray's Surgical Anatomy 2026.
My professional career brings together four closely connected areas: complex robotic surgery, NHS cancer leadership, academic research and innovation, and national and international robotic surgical training. Increasingly, my work focuses on how artificial intelligence, objective performance assessment and technology-enhanced training can be safely integrated into modern surgical practice to improve education and support the future of patient care.
