Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Nee Beng Teo at Spire include:
Chronic leg ulcers, aortofemoral bypass, arterial mapping, artery assessment, carotid endarterectomy, carotid surgery, endovascular treatment, endovenous laser treatment for varicose veins, foam sclerotherapy for varicose veins and varicose vein stripping.
I have been a consultant vascular surgeon since 2011 and currently working at the Warrington and Halton Hospitals as well as the South Mersey Arterial Centre at the Countess of Chester Hospital.
I perform carotid endarterctomy with patchplasty (local and general anaesthesia), aortic surgery for aneurismal and occlusive disease, local femoral reconstruction, fem-fem cross-over, axillo-femoral bypass, fem-popliteal bypass, fem-distal bypass, varicose vein operations (primary and redo) and endovenous laser therapy, digital and major lower limb amputations.
During my endovascular fellowship in Bristol, I have been learning from the interventional vascular radiologists in the endovascular repair of abdominal aortic aneurysm (EVAR) as well as angioplasty and stenting of peripheral vessels or AV fistula. I have also learnt vascular duplex scan and attended a postgraduate course in medical ultrasound at the University of West England. I was involved in EVAR on a regular basis during my vascular fellowship in South Manchester University Hospital.
After being appointed as a consultant, I received mentorship from consultant vascular surgical colleagues at Royal Liverpool University Hospital in EVAR for one year. At present, I perform EVAR (general or spinal anaesthesia) in my theatre list with a radiological colleague in the South Mersey Arterial Centre at the Countess of Chester Hospital.
I enjoy being involved in both the undergraduate and postgraduate medical education. My dream comes through in extending my role in the postgraduate surgical training when I was appointed as College Surgical tutor at the Warrington and Halton NHS trusts. I was involved as one the panel interviewers for the National Recruitment of Surgical & Vascular ST3 as well as National Recruitment of Core Surgical Trainees in London on several occasions.
As part of clinical governance, I support and guide the junior doctors in audit projects which have been presented in hospital audit meetings at Warrington General Hospital. With the inception of South Mersey Arterial (SMART) centre, I have been appointed as an audit lead with the main role to coordinate, guide, support and supervise vascular audit and research projects. Apart from mortality and morbidity meetings, I also organise monthly audit and research meetings along with educational presentations by guest speakers. In one of the audit and research meeting, we presented the results of endovascular repair of aneurysm (EVAR) at the SMART centre along with Professor Andrew Bradbury (professor of vascular surgery from Birmingham) as our guest speaker about BASIL II Trial. With great honour, I have been appointed as the secretary for the Mersey vascular group to organize and co-ordinate vascular meetings between the North and South Mersey Vascular Centres (LIVES and SMART).
I teach medical students from the University of Liverpool on the regular basis. I am also an assigned educational and clinical supervisor of my vascular specialist and core vascular trainees. I am involved in the specialist training and education committee (STEC) for vascular surgery. I enjoy teaching and have been awarded with educational merit award by the Warrington Medical Education Department as well as honorary senior lecturer by the University of Liverpool.
