I have over 30 years of experience in Paediatric Surgery. I am a Consultant Paediatric Surgeon at Leeds Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust since 2004. I have interest in Liver (HPB), Gastrointestinal, Neonatal and General Paediatric Surgical disorders and trauma. I provide elective and emergencymanagement for a wide variety of Paediatric Surgical disorders and provide a 1 in 10 General and trauma on-call cover. In addition, I provide cover for Paediatric Hepatobiliary disorders at the liver unit of Leeds General Infirmary, which is one of the 3 Supra-Regional Centres for Childrens Liver diseases for the country. I also provide a 1 in 4 acute cover for Tracheo-Oesophageal Fistula (TOF) and Oesophageal Atresia (OA) service.
I have special interest in Minimal Access Surgery. I use da vinci Robot for technically challenging key- hole procedures, apart from a wide variety of laparoscopic procedures through conventional laparoscopy. I am a proctor for Paediatric Robotic Surgery. I teach Minimal Access Surgery in Local, National and International courses.
I regularly contribute to the literature in the form of original papers, case reports and review articles.
I am on the panel of major national and international peer review journals as a reviewer for publications. I have delivered guest lectures in many National and International conferences. I teach in National and International, theory and hands-on courses.
I have studied Law, as a full-time student, from the University of Exeter and was awarded Diploma in Law with honours in June 2002. I completed my Bar Vocational Course with honours from The University of The West of England, Bristol, in June 2003. I have been awarded National Bronze award for excellence in my NHS work.
My main area of interest is gastrointestinal and liver, pancreas and spleen, apart from general surgical disorders and groinary.
A paediatric surgeon performs a wide variety of procedures, which is slightly different to adult specialties.
I operate on the abdomen, chest and also on the surface of the body. I also perform endoscopy procedures, for upper and lower gastrointestinal tract.
As mentioned above, I have special interest in Key Hole Surgical procedures, uitlising conventional laparoscopy and Robotic techniques.
I have a busy medicolegal practice. This is helped by my law degree.
I provide opinions for the Claimants but also for NHS Resolution and the GMC.
The medicolegal work is another aspect which forces me to stay abreast with the literature.
