I am the Clinical Lead for breast cancer for the Royal Free NHS trust at the Barnet Hospital site, as well as the Lead Quality Assurance Breast Surgeon for the North London Breast Screening Unit. The North London Breast Screening Service (NLBSS) is part of the national breast screening programme and is one of the largest breast screening services in England.
At Spire Bushey Hospital, I run rapid access triple assessment clinics for women with concerns about their breasts. My team includes specialist breast care nurses, consultant breast radiologists and pathologists who aim for results within 24 hours, avoiding a long and anxious wait.
My special interests are the management of benign and malignant breast diseases as well as management of high risk patients and selecting patients for immediate breast reconstruction when indicated.
Treatment for all breast cancer patients is discussed at the weekly multi-disciplinary team meetings at Spire Bushey and the team works together to create a dedicated treatment plan for each patient. It is widely recognised that having a committed multi-disciplinary team to consider all treatment options results in the most effective care plan for the patient. Indeed, the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE) and the NHS Cancer Plan recommend the treatment of everyone with cancer should be managed by a multidisciplinary team. My significant experience has benefited a huge number of patients in the region. I am recognised by my peers as leaving no stone unturned in the diagnosis and treatment of my patients. I lecture widely to GPs and patient groups on the importance of early diagnosis and the latest treatment techniques. I work with a team of highly regarded Consultant Oncologists and Plastic Surgeons who together provide patients with optimum care.
