Mr Montasser Mahran

I am a Consultant Gynaecologist with 26 years experience in the field of gynaecology. I perform the majority of my surgical procedures using advanced robotic and keyhole (laparoscopic) techniques. These minimally invasive approaches allow patients to benefit from smaller incisions, reduced postoperative pain, lower complication rates, shorter hospital stays, faster recovery, and an earlier return to normal daily activities.

I have a particular expertise in the diagnosis and surgical management of endometriosis and am highly specialised in treating women with endometriosis, fibroids, ovarian cysts, heavy menstrual bleeding, chronic pelvic pain, and hysterectomy surgery. My aim is to provide personalised, evidence-based care using the most advanced surgical techniques available, helping women across Cambridge and surrounding areas achieve the best possible outcomes while minimising recovery time and disruption to their lives.

I completed my specialist training in the East of England and London and have developed extensive expertise in advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery.

I am the Lead Surgeon for the Robotic Gynaecology and Endometriosis Services at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. In this role, I lead the development and delivery of advanced robotic and keyhole (laparoscopic) surgical services for women with a wide range of gynaecological conditions, including severe and complex endometriosis.

Since my appointment as a Consultant Gynaecologist, I have successfully introduced advanced laparoscopic and robotic gynaecological surgery at Bedfordshire Hospitals. This has enabled the development of a comprehensive minimally invasive surgery service, allowing hundreds of women with complex gynaecological conditions, including severe endometriosis, to benefit from advanced surgical treatment closer to home.

Over the years, I have performed hundreds of complex laparoscopic and robotic procedures and have played a key role in training and supporting other consultants across the region in the delivery of safe and effective minimally invasive surgery. Through surgical training courses, mentorship programmes and hands-on supervision, I have helped develop the skills of fellow gynaecologists and promote best practice in advanced endometriosis and minimally invasive surgery.

This work has been recognised nationally. Our endometriosis service has been accredited by the British Society for Gynaecological Endoscopy (BSGE) as a nationally accredited Endometriosis Centre, reflecting our commitment to delivering the highest standards of multidisciplinary care for women with complex endometriosis.

a strong interest in medical education and regularly organise lectures, small-group teaching sessions and surgical workshops for trainees and healthcare professionals. I have published numerous articles in peer-reviewed medical journals and actively contribute to the advancement of gynaecological surgery through education, training and research.

I also act as a mentor to consultants and senior trainees developing their skills in advanced laparoscopic and robotic surgery, supporting the delivery of safe and effective minimally access surgery across the region.
