"I love working here at Spire Norwich Hospital. The atmosphere is so supportive with the entire staff committed to each patient's treatment."
Specialises in
I am a Consultant General Surgeon specialising in Oncoplastic Breast Surgery.
Oncoplastic surgery balances oncologic safety for cancer surgery with good cosmetic outcomes.
This surgery combines the skills of general surgery and plastic surgery. I have extensive experience in performing the full spectrum of breast surgical procedures. It is important for me that each patient is supported through the treatment journey and that surgical options are discussed and offered when suitable. This patient-centred approach is my priority, aiming for the best outcomes for each patient.
I run a one-stop breast clinic for triple assessment of breast symptoms, and I have wide experience in managing benign breast conditions too.
A diagnosis of breast cancer can be a very stressful time for patients and I make sure that they are supported at each step of the treatment.
For breast cancer management, breast conserving surgery can range from a simple wide local excision (lumpectomy) to more complex procedures when larger volume of excision is necessary. These procedures include volume displacement techniques such as therapeutic mammoplasty and volume replacement such as chest wall perforator flaps (eg LICAP, LTAP) for partial breast reconstruction.
I am experienced in skin-sparing mastectomy, nipple-sparing mastectomy and immediate reconstruction with implants and ADM (Acellular Dermal Matrix) or Latissimus Dorsi flap. Of special interest to me is the pre-pectoral implant reconstruction and I have led the auditing of patient reported outcome measures (PROMs) for this technique in Norwich.
I have co-authored more than 50 published articles in peer-reviewed journals focusing on surgical oncology, oncoplastic surgery techniques and patient-reported outcomes after breast reconstruction. I am very passionate about teaching and training, I am an Associate Professor at the UEA medical school and a faculty tutor in multiple courses, teaching breast reconstruction nationally and internationally as part of the ABS.
I regularly participate and present my outcomes in international and national meetings.
I am certified by the Royal College of Surgeons board for breast cosmetic surgery procedures.
