I started doing obesity surgery in 1995 in Belgium and received my training from Dr Jacques Himpens who is currently the President of International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity (IFSO). I am a member of IFSO, BOMSS and ASMBS. I moved to the Channel Islands in 1999 and started the bariatric surgery service at the SPIRE Hospital in Southampton in 2005 together with Mr Ian Bailey.
At Spire I offer the following procedures using keyhole surgery; Lapbanding, RNY gastric bypass, Mini Gastric Bypass, Sleeve Gastrectomy, Biliopancreatic Diversion and Duodenal Switch. I also offer "banded" procedures to minimise the risk of weight regain years after surgery. I have pioneered the use of the Fobi ring (GaBP ring) in the UK in 2007. This device can be placed around the gastric pouch (bypass operation) or around the gastric sleeve to provide a permanent element of restriction.
As a specialist laparoscopic surgeon I also offer a wide range of laparoscopic procedures including hernia repair, gallbladder removal, anti-reflux surgery to name just a few. One of my signature procedures is the LINX operation. This simple and reversible procedure can cure the symptoms of heartburn and reflux. It involves the placement of a bracelet with magnetic beads around the bottom of the oesophagus (gullet) to prevent acid form refluxing into the oesophagus.
I have acted as a preceptor for obesity surgery and have given training to surgeons in several hospitals around the UK. I run an outpatient clinic in the Guernsey and Jersey where I see patients from the Channel Islands who struggle with their weight. I have a weekly clinic at the Spire Southampton on Thursdays. This clinic is entirely devoted to patients who suffer from obesity. We offer a multidisciplinary approach in order to give our patients the best possible advice and also the safest surgery. Our patients see not only their consultant surgeon but also the other members of the team who will look after them on their journey: the anaesthetist, the bariatric dietician and the specialist bariatric nurse.

I live in Guernsey together with my wife Katty, we have 2 grown up boys who are both studying in the UK. I love food and really have to watch what I eat or I would be piling the pounds on! My hobbies include cycling, clay pigeon shooting and spending time with my family. Whenever possible I use my cycling trips to raise money for charitable causes.
