I have been a Consultant Colorectal and General Surgeon in Cardiff for the last 10 years. I currently manage patients at Spire Cardiff Hospital, University Hospital of Wales and University Hospital Llandough. I am experienced in the management of colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and anal conditions including haemorrhoids.
I treat the full spectrum of bowel conditions including bowel cancer, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, diverticular disease and Anal problems including haemorrhoids, anal fissure, anal fistula and skin tags. I have an active role in diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy. I also undertake elective general surgical procedures including hernia repair and removal of lumps and bumps.
Over the last 10 years I have undertaken over 1,000 operations for bowel cancer and benign conditions. I have undertaken minimally invasive laparoscopic (keyhole) surgery in over 60% of bowel cancer resections. 50% of my work involves treating benign conditions including Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, diverticular disease. I also undertake a significant amount of minimally surgery for colonic and rectal polyps including Transanal Endoscopic Microsurgery.
I am the South Wales representative for the Association of Coloproctology of Great Britain and Ireland and I am the Surgical Quality Assurance Advisor for Bowel Screening Wales and Surgical Advisor to the Bowel Screening Wales Complex Polyp Network MDT.
In addition to my clinical work I am an honorary lecturer at the Cardiff University Medical School and have a role in the academic and clinical training of medical students in Cardiff. I qualified at Guy's Hospital, London in 1990 and then trained in General and Colorectal Surgery in Cardiff, London and Oxford. After completing my training in Oxford, I spent a year as an Chief Resident and in Colorectal Surgery at the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota, USA.
