Mr Matt Erdmann

I am a consultant plastic, reconstructive and aesthetic surgeon and have worked at the Spire Washington Hospital since 1999.

I have been awarded the Certificate of Cosmetic Surgery (CCS), which has been awarded by the Joint Colleges of Surgeons and BAPRAS to only a handful of surgeons in the UK, based on scrutiny of their surgical numbers, low complication rates and patient satisfaction over a representative eight-year period, and am a member of BAAPS (British Association of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery).

I was appointed as NHS consultant plastic surgeon to the University Hospital of North Durham in 1998 and have been lead clinician there from 2005-2017, leaving the NHS in 2023. I have been MAC representative in Plastic Surgery and Clinical Governance lead at the Spire Washington Hospital.

I graduated from the University of Witwatersrand Medical School and trained in plastic and reconstruction surgery in the regional plastic centres at Charing Cross Hospital in London; St John’s Hospital in Edinburgh and completed my senior registrar training at the world famous Canniesburn Hospital in Glasgow.

I specialize  in local anaesthetic (LA) involving cosmetic procedures such as upper eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) , correction of prominent ears (otoplasty) and scar revision.  Other LA procedures include removal and biopsy of skin lesions such as skin cancers (BCC), keratoses, sebaceous cysts, lipomas and similar  problematic lesions. I also provide non-surgical options where relevant such as cryotherapy, involving freezing lesions using liquid Nitrogen, as well as anti-wrinkle treatments (eg Botox).
