I am a consultant ophthalmologist at Spire Liverpool Hospital and a member of The Liverpool Eye Clinic. I trained in ophthalmology across Southampton, Manchester, Liverpool and Perth in Australia, gaining broad experience in both routine and complex eye conditions.
My main area of specialist interest is glaucoma, where I provide a tertiary service through St Paul’s Eye Unit in Liverpool. I also carry out modern cataract surgery using small incision (phacoemulsification) techniques, with lens implants to restore clear vision.
As well as treating glaucoma and cataracts, I look after a wide range of eye conditions, including corneal and external eye disease, and I offer refractive procedures for patients looking to reduce their dependence on glasses or contact lenses.
I understand how important your sight is, so I aim to provide clear explanations, thorough assessments and a personalised approach to treatment. Whether you are coming in for a routine concern or a more complex condition, I focus on making the experience as reassuring and straightforward as possible.
Outside of work, I live locally with my wife and three children. I enjoy spending time outdoors, particularly cycling and running, and regularly take part in triathlons.
Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Mark Batterbury at Spire include:
