Mr Manal Kumar

Consultant Urologist

MBBS, MS, MCh (Urol), FRCS (Edin), FRCS (Urol)

I have been a Consultant Urological Surgeon at Wirral University Teaching Hospital since 2008, caring for patients across all areas of urology, with a particular focus on urological cancers. A significant part of my work involves supporting patients through the diagnosis and treatment of prostate cancer, using the latest surgical techniques to achieve the best possible outcomes.

I was the first surgeon to introduce robotic surgery on the Wirral within the NHS and remain one of a small number of high-volume specialists in the UK performing robotic and laparoscopic radical prostatectomy. Alongside this, I have extensive experience in treating bladder and kidney conditions, including stone disease, kidney cancer, and complex reconstructive procedures. I also perform flexible cystoscopy and advanced pelvic cancer surgery.

My approach is centred on minimally invasive techniques wherever possible, including robotic partial nephrectomy, pyeloplasty and reconstructive surgery, helping patients recover more quickly and return to normal life sooner. I also mentor other surgeons in laparoscopic and robotic techniques, reflecting my commitment to continually improving care.

Alongside my clinical work, I am Clinical Governance Lead for Urology at Wirral University Teaching Hospital and a member of the Medical Advisory Committee at Spire Murrayfield Hospital Wirral.

Outside of work, I enjoy spending time with my family, reading and keeping active through tennis and basketball.
