I have been a consultant general, colorectal and complex cancer surgeon for two years. As a complex cancer consultant surgeon, I have experience in the treatment of colorectal cancer including primary, advanced, and recurrent cancers in particular pelvic cancers.
I perform open and minimally invasive (keyhole) surgery, with a special interest in advanced pelvic and abdominal cancer. I am experienced in exenterative surgery (including sacrectomy) and cytoreductive surgery with hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HiPEC) for peritoneal metastasis. I am a core member of the colorectal and complex cancer MDTs and a JAG accredited endoscopist performing diagnostic and therapeutic colonoscopy.
Throughout my training and consultant practice I have undertaken >1,000 cancer operations of which most are for advanced cancer.
I have worked in Wessex as a surgical trainee for over 10 years, in the field of advanced and recurrent cancer surgery undertaking training in advanced anal cancer, advanced colorectal cancer and pseudomyxoma peritoneii (PMP). I have completed the prestigious Royal College of Surgeons, England, Minimally invasive and Maximally Invasive Colorectal Cancer Senior Fellowship in complex and robotic cancer surgery at the National Bowel Hospital, St Mark’s, London.
I am a NIHR GlobalSurg core member with an interest in global surgery and cancer outcomes in low- and middle-income countries. I am the current sub-specialty lead for the surgical research portfolio at the Clinical Research Network, Wessex and I serve as the co-chair of the National Institute for Health Research, Research for Patient Benefit for the South of England.
In addition to my clinical work I am an associate professor in colorectal surgery and prehabilitation medicine at the University of Southampton. I am a senior investigator for the NIHR Southampton Biomedical Research Centre and I lead several clinical research trials with more than £5million in research funding.

I am the currently sub-specialty lead for the surgical research portfolio at the Clinical Research Network, Wessex.
I serve as the co-chair of the NIHR Research for Patient Benefit programme for southern England.
I have published >70 peer reviewed articles in high impact medical journals. I am the journal associate editor for the British Journal of Surgery, British Journal of Surgery Open and have been guest editor for Frontiers in Oncology and Cancers.
