Mr Maitrey Darrad
Consultant Urological Surgeon

"The work ethic and team spirit are unparalleled enabling excellent patient centred care. Spire hospitals provide fantastic facilities and it is a pleasure to work here."
I specialise in general urological surgery with specific interest in the diagnosis and management of urinary tract stone disease, miniaturized percutaneous nephrolithotomy (mini-PCNL), percutaneous ultrasound guided renal access, antegrade and retrograde rigid/flexible uretero-renoscopy & laser lithotripsy (URS), shockwave lithotripsy (SWL), stone prevention and metabolic stone disease treatment.
I also have expertise in diagnostic and surgical management of benign and malignant prostatic, bladder, ureteric, renal and testicular conditions. This includes patients with any symptoms associated with the passage of urine and urinary tract infections.
I perform one of the highest volumes of urinary tract stone disease surgeries in the UK. This includes over 60 keyhole surgeries (PCNL) for large stones, over 150 ureteroscopic laser stone surgeries and over 200 shockwave lithotripsy procedures every year.
I qualified from Imperial College London in 2007 and work as a consultant urological surgeon in University Hospitals Birmingham and am an expert in complex urinary tract stone disease management. I was the winner of the British Association of Urological Surgeon (BAUS) Endourology Travelling Scholarship and World Congress of Endourology (WCE) Fellowship which I undertook in globally renowned kidney stone centres in South-East Asia performing minimally-invasive keyhole surgeries for large kidney stones.
