I have been a consultant in aesthetic plastic surgery since 2002. My aesthetic practice includes breast surgery (including breast enlargement), abdominoplasty, body recontouring and facial aesthetic surgery, including rhinoplasty and otoplasty.

I was one of the first surgeons in the UK to be fully certified in all areas of cosmetic surgery by the Royal College of Surgeons. This is a new scheme to certify training, experience and quality outcome measures in cosmetic surgery.

I graduated in 1990, and completed a comprehensive training programme in plastic reconstructive and aesthetic surgery. This included specialist training in Edinburgh, London and Newcastle.

I undertook periods of specialist aesthetic surgery training in London and specialist fellowships and study with renowned plastic surgeons, in Sydney, Toronto, California and Tokyo.

Within the NHS I have established and run a national ear reconstruction programme for children and adults with ear malformations. I also treat children and adults with facial disfigurement using the latest techniques, including fat transfer.

I now conduct regular charitable workshops in Vietnam under the auspices of the Bfirst charity. These involve performing and teaching local surgeons ear reconstruction.

I am a full member of BAAPS, BAPRAS and EURAPS. I am active in the field of plastic surgery research, in particular outcomes from aesthetic surgery. Recent publications in respected plastic surgery journals on outcomes of abdominoplasty, ear recontouring and reconstruction, facial augmentation and liposuction have been widely quoted in plastic surgery literature.

I am regularly invited to lecture and teach professional audiences in plastic surgery both in the UK and internationally. I have by invitation performed live surgical workshops in the Middle East, India and South East Asia.

Consultant Plastic Surgeon NHS Lothian.

Director of Plastic Surgery Training Scotland.

Having offended my West Coast family by marrying a girl from Edinburgh, I still live with my wife and four children. I find family life far too hectic and so spend much of my time working.

I am particularly proud that my devotion to surgery has led to a particularly poor golf swing and a propensity to capsize sailing dinghies. I have on numerous occasions tried to drown my wife and children with said manoeuvre but on each occasion local fishermen and even the RNLI have come to the rescue!

Several times a year I manage to escape to various parts with my pals to cycle over mountains at 1/0th of the speed of Team Sky.
