Mr Ong qualified from the University of Melboune, Australia. Subsequent to this he has trained in General Medicine (MRCP) followed by Opthalmology in the Cambridgeshire region. He holds membership of the Royal College of Physicians (MRCP) (London) and a Fellowship from the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (FRCOphth). Mr Ong’s specialist training in Ophthalmology was undertaken in Addenbrooke’s Hospital Cambridge and Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital. During this time, he completed advanced subspecialty fellowship training in the medical and surgical management of retinal disorders. Between 2010-2011, Mr Ong was involved in stem cell and artificial retina (bionic eye) research in Moorfields Eye Hospital and The Institute of Ophthalmology in London.
Mr Ong was appointed as a Consultant Ophthalmic Surgeon to Addenbrooke’s Hospital, Cambridge in 2011. His specialist interests include retinal disorders, including the management of Age-related Macular Degeneration, retinal vascular diseases, Diabetic eye disease and also vitreo-retinal surgery for retinal detachment, macula disorders and complications of diabetic eye disease. Mr Ong also has an interest in complex cataract surgery including the use of premium intraocular lenses including toric and multifocal intraocular lenses.
