I've been a consultant surgeon specialising in colon, rectum and anal surgery since 2009. I served in the Royal Army Medical Corps for more than 25 years and deployed in support of military operations to Northern Ireland, Kosovo and Afghanistan.
In my NHS practice I have established a complex abdominal wall reconstruction service for the assessment, management and repair of complex, giant or recurrent abdominal wall hernias. I regularly undertake advanced laparoscopic surgery for gallbladder, bowel and hernia problems, as well as upper (gastroscopy) and lower (colonoscopy/flexible sigmoidoscopy) gastrointestinal endoscopy.
I maintain an interest in trauma surgery, teaching on a number of trauma surgery courses and acting as Editor-in-Chief of the journal 'TRAUMA'. I have recently published a textbook on complex abdominal wall reconstruction and regularly teach the surgical techniques involved on a number of courses around the country.
