I undertook my higher surgical training in the Southwest of England before being appointed as a Consultant General Surgeon with a special interest in colorectal surgery at the BRI in October 2011.
My main interest is in the management of colorectal cancer and inflammatory bowel disease including laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer and IBD. I also offer THD and Halo procedure for haemorrhoids.
I completed a one year fellowship in Edinburgh colorectal unit to gain specialist training in the management of complex colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease and ileo-anal pouch surgery. I also completed a six months fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery for colorectal cancer and IBD.

Bowel cancer: symptoms, causes and diagnosis
Mr Jamshed Shabbir, a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon, says bowel cancer is the fourth most common cancer in the UK and is increasingly more common amongst young people under 50. Some of the most common bowel cancer symptoms are change in bowel habits, abdominal pain, loose stools or constipation and bloating for more than six weeks. Diagnosis of bowel cancer might involve a digital rectal exam or a colonoscopy.
