Virtual consultations:
I am a senior Consultant Upper Gastrointestinal and Bariatric Surgeon with over 30 years of experience providing care both on the NHS and privately.
I am committed to achieving the best and safest outcomes for my patients, and I consider it a privilege to work in this exciting area of surgery.
Dedicated to debunking many of the myths and stigmas around obesity, I spend much of my time educating members of the public and health professionals to improve understanding of this disease and the transformative effects of surgery.
I understand the debilitating effects of gallstones and hernias in my patients as well as the pressures of undergoing these operations outside the private sector. I have excellent outcomes and safety record for these operations.
I manage all aspects of gallstone disease, including gallbladder removal (cholecystectomy) and bile duct exploration for retained stones, with over 1,000 procedures performed. Gallstones are a common condition that can cause significant pain and illness, often affecting quality of life. I understand how debilitating these symptoms can be and am committed to treating patients as promptly and safely as possible to help them return to normal life. Gallbladder surgery is almost always performed laparoscopically (keyhole), allowing most patients to go home the same day and have a speedy recovery.
While hernias are sometimes dismissed as minor issues, I recognise that they can cause considerable discomfort and impact day-to-day life, including limiting physical activity and family time. I offer surgical treatment for all types of abdominal and groin hernias, including inguinal, femoral, incisional, ventral, umbilical, and recurrent hernias. Whenever appropriate, surgery is performed laparoscopically, which can lead to faster recovery and a quicker return to daily activities. The surgical approach is tailored to the type and size of the hernia.
I am an expert bariatric surgeon and have performed over 1,000 major weight loss procedures. I specialises in a range of operations including Mini and Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass, Sleeve Gastrectomy, Gastric Banding, and complex revision surgery. My bariatric practice is delivered through Verve Health Group which is CQC registered and where I am a director. The service is known for its excellent safety record and outstanding patient feedback.
I also offer surgery for hiatus hernia and acid reflux (fundoplication), as well as upper GI endoscopy.
