I am a Consultant Eye Surgeon and the Head of Corneal & Refractive Surgery at York Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, and recognised as a leading authority in the region. I graduated with honors from the University of Leeds in 2009, and awarded the West Riding Prize for graduating top of my year. I completed eight years of specialist Ophthalmology training before focusing exclusively on corneal and refractive surgery.
I have pursued research interests in Malawi, Africa, with the University of Liverpool and Wellcome Trust, resulting in published work.
My training includes fellowships at Leeds Teaching Hospitals, St. James’s Laser Vision, and a prestigious fellowship in Corneal and Refractive Surgery at St. Thomas’s Hospital London.
In 2017, I achieved Certification in Laser Refractive Surgery from the Royal College of Ophthalmologists (CertLRS), followed by a Diploma in Cataract and Refractive Surgery (University of Ulster) with distinction; I have now joined the teaching faculty and was recently awarded a Professorship. I am a member of the esteemed Microsurgical Skills Teaching faculty at the Royal College of Ophthalmologists contribute to training the next generation of surgeons.
I specialise in treatment of diseases of the front of the eye and refractive errors. I am a high volume corneal transplant surgeon performing full thickness, lamellar and endothelial corneal transplants (DSEK/ DMEK). I perform standard and refractive cataract surgery with premium intraocular lenses (IOL’s) including Multifocal lenses, Extended Depth of focus lenses and toric lenses. I perform laser refractive surgery and implantable collamer lenses (ICL’s) to help people who want to be free from glasses. I regularly manage dry eye disease, allergic eye disease and keratoconus.
I have performed thousands of surgeries, typically operating daily across both my NHS and private practice. I have performed over 500 corneal transplant procedures and many thousands of laser refractive and cataract/ lens replacement surgeries. I have low complication rates, significantly lower than the national average and typically look after complex and challenging cases within my role in the NHS.
My main focus in the care I delivery is to provide an exceptional standard of care both in terms of surgical outcomes but also patient experience. I aim to communicate options clearly and without bias and will confidently help you navigate the difficult decisions regarding surgery and medical care.
