Some of the principal treatments carried out by Mr Ian Grant at Spire include:
I am a trained hand-surgeon, treating degenerative, traumatic and congenital upper limb problems, including injection treatment for Dupuytren's, thumb base osteoarthritis, nerve injury, and children's hands.
I was appointed as a consultant plastic surgeon at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge in 2005. My work includes reconstructive surgery, skin cancer surgery, hand surgery and cosmetic surgery. I have expertise in hand and upper limb problems, including traumatic injuries, peripheral nerve injuries, osteoarthritis, Dupuytren's disease, and children's hands. I am part of the skin cancer multi-disciplinary team, and the lower limb reconstructive surgery team.
My regular private practice includes cosmetic operations such as breast reduction, breast augmentation, abdominoplasty, and prominent ear correction.
I am a full member of the British Association of Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgeons (BAPRAS), the British Association of Aesthetic Surgeons (BAAPS), and the British Society for Surgery of the Hand (BSSH).
I graduated from Oxford University in 1991 and trained as a plastic surgeon at hospitals in Salisbury, East Grinstead, London (Mount Vernon), Cambridge, Leeds, and Melbourne Australia. I undertook fellowship training that included hand, micro, peripheral nerve, and aesthetic surgery. I carried out two years of laboratory research on wound healing and have an interest in scarring and tissue engineered skin replacement.
I am the lead consultant for the training of plastic surgeons at Addenbrooke’s hospital and was the Clinical Director for plastic surgery between 2010 and 2014. I run an annual 2-day course on flap reconstruction and another on hand surgery. I am currently the programme director for the foundation year 1 doctors at Addenbrooke's hospital in Cambridge. I am a reviewer for the Journal of Hand Surgery (European Edition) and teach anatomy to undergraduate students.
I am a regular faculty member for courses on hand surgery and have been asked to give invited lectures on surgery for peripheral nerve injuries and congenital anomalies of the hand and chest wall.
I carry out medico-legal reporting, predominantly for upper and lower-limb injuries, scarring, and burns. I am a clinical advisor the Parliamentary and Health Service Ombudsman and have previously advised the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence.
