I qualified in medicine from the University of Wales College of Medicine in 1985. I became a Member of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in 1991 and was awarded a Doctorate in Medicine by the University of Southampton in 1994. My doctoral work was in reproductive endocrinology and focused on the endometrial response to gonadotrophin stimulation and hormone replacement treatments. I have recently been elected to Fellowship of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists in recognition of my contribution to the advancement of obstetrics and gynaecology.
Before moving to Blackpool in March 1999, my clinical interests led me to develop additional expertise in minimal access gynaecological surgery and urogynaecology. I was appointed to my current post in Blackpool to support the development of general gynaecological services in these specialist areas.
I combine these special interest skills with wide experience in general gynaecology. I believe it is essential that women are provided with clear, comprehensive explanations of all available treatment options and that their active involvement in decision‑making is central to achieving successful outcomes.
