I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon specialising in hip and knee surgery at Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital, with over 35 years’ experience in orthopaedic surgery and nearly three decades as a consultant in Cambridge. My private practice at Spire Cambridge Lea Hospital reflects my NHS practice at Addenbrooke’s Hospital, which involves hip and knee joint surgery and adult trauma care.

My main areas of interest are young and mature adult hip and knee pain. I undertake primary and revision hip and knee joint replacement surgery, hip resurfacing, arthroscopic (keyhole) knee surgery and trauma surgery. I have undertaken over 5,500 hip replacement procedures.

For primary hip replacement surgery, I typically use the cemented Exeter femoral stem, which has an excellent long‑term clinical track record. Depending on the patient’s needs, I may use either a cemented or uncemented socket as part of a hybrid hip replacement. In revision hip surgery, particularly when bone quality has been compromised, I favour impaction bone grafting combined with appropriate acetabular reconstruction and long femoral stems where required.

For suitable patients, I also offer hip resurfacing surgery, using the Adept Hip or ReCerf Hip systems. These procedures can be particularly beneficial for younger, active individuals when clinically appropriate.

My practice in knee surgery includes arthroscopic surgery, for meniscal tears, early osteoarthritis and joint replacement surgery. I favour a cemented knee replacement, typically the Genesis 2 or Triathlon knee which have been used for many years. I also undertake adult trauma management for patients with fractures around the hip.

To improve accuracy and reproducibility, I use the Stryker MAKO robot when appropriate for robotic-assisted primary hip replacement surgery.

After training in the UK, I spent a year working in a dedicated lower limb joint replacement unit in Adelaide, South Australia. I have substantial experience with cemented and uncemented primary and revision hip replacement surgery for various hip conditions including hip resurfacing.
