Virtual consultations:
I am a Consultant Orthopaedic Surgeon with a specialist focus on the full spectrum of hip conditions — from young adults with hip impingement (FAI) or hip dysplasia through to those needing hip replacement for arthritis. I offer one of the broadest ranges of hip surgery available in Wales. My clinical interests include arthroscopy, hip surgery, medico-legal, and sports injury. Special clinical interests also include direct anterior hip replacement, hip arthritis, hip arthroscopy/femoroacetabular impingement (FAI), hip preservation surgery, and hip dysplasia/periacetabular osteotomy (PAO).
For patients with hip dysplasia, I perform Periacetabular Osteotomy (PAO) — a joint-preserving procedure that corrects the underlying anatomy and can prevent or significantly delay the need for replacement. This is a technically demanding operation, and I offer it as part of a regional service for hip preservation surgery in South Wales.
For hip impingement (femoroacetabular impingement / FAI) and labral tears, I perform hip arthroscopy — keyhole surgery to reshape the bone and repair the labrum, helping active patients return to sport and normal life.
For patients requiring total hip replacement, I offer both the traditional posterior approach and the Direct Anterior Approach (DAA), including the minimally visible bikini incision technique.
I believe the right operation depends entirely on the individual patient. At consultation, I take time to understand your symptoms, lifestyle and goals, and will explain all available options — including non-surgical routes — so that you can make an informed decision about your care.
My training included a dedicated fellowship in Young Adult Hip Surgery with Mr Johan Witt, an internationally recognised expert in hip preservation, as well as a fellowship in Pelvic and Acetabular Surgery at a Major Trauma Centre. I hold a research Doctorate (MD) from Swansea University and have visited leading surgeons in Europe and the United States, including at the Steadman Clinic in Colorado.
I work closely with specialist physiotherapists before and after surgery to support recovery and optimise outcomes.
Outside of work, my time is devoted to my family. With four children, I am very busy. Having previously been a keen sportsman, including a half-ironman I keep promising to do more exercise but as yet it hasn't happened.
